What Air Tow trailers does Jayhawk Trailers stock?
Every Air Tow we carry is a drop deck trailer. Our stock runs through the S10-55, S12-55, and US12-55 models and up into the larger UT14-10, UT16-12, and UT16-14 units. They sit at both our Commerce City lot and the Truck Center in Fort Lupton.
These are specialty trailers, not general-purpose utilities, so it is worth understanding what the drop deck actually does before you compare price against a standard ramp trailer.
What is a drop deck trailer and why would I pay more for one?
The whole deck lowers to the ground, so you load at ground level with no ramps and no approach angle. You roll, walk, or drive equipment straight on, then the deck lifts back to travel height.
You pay more because it removes the two things that hurt people and machines: lifting ramps by hand, and driving up a steep incline on something with low clearance or a high center of gravity.
Who buys an Air Tow instead of a standard equipment trailer?
Rental yards, utility and telecom crews, sign and glass companies, generator and compressor fleets, and anyone loading the same machine several times a day. When loading happens ten times a shift, the drop deck pays for itself in time and in backs that do not get hurt.
If you load a skid steer twice a month, a conventional ramp trailer is the more sensible spend.
Do Air Tow trailers need brakes and registration in Colorado?
Yes on both counts. C.R.S. 42-4-223 requires brakes on all wheels at 3,000 pounds gross, which every Air Tow in our inventory exceeds, and Colorado titles and registers all trailers within 60 days of purchase.
If the trailer is working commercially and the combination rates over 16,001 pounds, C.R.S. 42-4-235 also brings intrastate commercial vehicle requirements into play.
How much maintenance does the lowering mechanism need?
Less than people assume, but it is not zero. Keep the pivots and slides clean and greased, watch for grit packed into the mechanism after dirt-lot work, and rinse the underside after winter runs since magnesium chloride finds moving parts first.
