Southland Questions We Get in Commerce City and Fort Lupton
What Southland trailers does Jayhawk Trailers stock?
We carry Southland equipment haulers with aluminum ramps and Southland utility trailers, all tandem axle. Ratings cover the working middle of the market rather than the extremes, which is why they move so steadily off both lots.
Southland units are at our Commerce City lot and the Truck Center in Fort Lupton, so filter by location on the inventory above before you drive out.
Are aluminum ramps better than steel ramps?
For one person, yes. Aluminum ramps weigh roughly half what comparable steel ramps do, which is the difference between setting them by hand and wrestling them. They also do not rust when Colorado road salt and magnesium chloride get into the pivot.
Steel still wins on raw abuse tolerance and cost. If your ramps get dragged, dropped, and run over by tracked machines, steel takes it better.
Southland utility or Southland equipment hauler?
Utility trailers are for material and small machines: mowers, mulch, furniture, pallets, ATVs. Equipment haulers are built around heavier axles, a stronger frame, and ramps rated for a skid steer or a compact tractor.
The honest test is the heaviest single thing you will ever put on the deck. Size for that, not for the average load.
Do Southland trailers need trailer brakes in Colorado?
Every tandem-axle Southland does. C.R.S. 42-4-223 requires brakes on all wheels once a trailer's gross weight reaches 3,000 pounds, and a tandem equipment hauler is well past that before you load it.
Make sure the tow vehicle has a brake controller wired and adjusted. It is the single most-skipped step for first-time trailer buyers on the Front Range.
Do I have to title and register a Southland trailer in Colorado?
Yes. Colorado titles and registers every trailer, including utility trailers that some nearby states leave alone. You have 60 days from purchase to register at your county motor vehicle office, and after that the state adds $10 per month until it is current.
We send the paperwork with you at delivery so the counter visit is quick.
Can you order a Southland trailer you do not have on the lot?
Yes. Deck length, ramp style, axle rating, and gate configuration are all order options, and we place orders regularly rather than only stocking what shows up. Tell us the tow vehicle and the load and we will spec it around both.
