Skirted Truck Beds

A skirted bed is the one most people picture when they think of a work truck: a flat deck with enclosed sides that run down past the frame, and storage boxes built into those sides. You get a usable deck and lockable storage in the same footprint, which is why skirted beds are the most common style on service and ranch trucks across the Front Range.

Why skirted is the default

Because most people need storage and deck at the same time. The side compartments hold chains, straps, hand tools, fittings and fuel cans where they stay dry and locked, and the deck above stays clear for whatever the job actually is. For anyone running service calls, that organization is the difference between a tidy truck and a truck you dig through.

Skirted beds also finish the truck visually. The enclosed sides hide the frame rails and give the rear a squared-off look that a bare flatbed does not, which matters more than people admit on a truck that pulls up to customer sites.

Where it costs you

Side loading. A forklift cannot set a pallet down anywhere along the deck the way it can on a flatbed — it has to clear the sides, or load from the back. If your material arrives on a forklift, think hard before choosing skirted.

Skirted beds also weigh more than a comparable flat deck, which is part of why aluminum versions exist.

What we stock

Skirted inventory comes from 903 Truck Beds and CM Truck Beds, in steel and in aluminum. Compartment layouts, deck lengths and hitch provisions vary by model, so the right move is to look at two or three in person rather than compare spec sheets.

Fitment

We need the year, make and model, whether the truck is single rear wheel or dually, and the cab-to-axle measurement — back of the cab to the centerline of the rear axle. Dually and single-wheel skirted beds are not interchangeable, so that detail matters more here than on a flatbed.

Skirted or flatbed?

If you need locked storage with you at every stop, skirted. If you load from the side with a forklift or haul long material, flatbed.

Steel or aluminum?

Aluminum saves weight and will not rust through a Colorado winter of road treatment. Steel costs less and shrugs off rough handling. Both are stocked.

Can you install it?

Yes — our service department handles bed installation. Call ahead to schedule.

Will the compartments fit a specific tool or case?

Bring it with you. Compartment dimensions differ between models and it is a five-minute answer in the yard.
