Wayne ran a thriving business for many years until selling the propane business and property to his longtime neighbor, Jayhawk Trailers, in 2019. It has been an honor to get to continue operating the Maddox family business well into future generations!

Elliot Maddox Sr, a carpenter from Jacksonville, FL, started Maddox Gas & Oil in 1929. The original shop was built in Commerce City, CO (where Derby Tire is currently located). Elliot Sr. ran his gas, oil & tire business from that location for many years. In 1958, Elliot Maddox Jr inherited the family business and continued operating at that location until the mid 60's. At that point, it became more advantageous financially to move Maddox Gas & Oil to its current location, his family home that had been built by his father in 1922, and added Propane to the list of offerings! Due to new EPA regulations, the Maddox family was forced to stop selling gas & oil in the late 90s, right around the time that Wayne Maddox took over the business. After only a few years of running the propane business, Wayne added his personal passion- Vintage Automobiles!
Today you will primarily find Jackson, Our lead propane tech filling your Propane Tanks. You can also find Ray near by who also runs the propane operations but primarily unloads stacks of trailers in the very same spot Wayne kept his cars!
