How do I determine the right trailer size?

Bumper-Pull vs. Gooseneck Trailers
- Bumper-Pull: Easier hookup, more budget-friendly, ideal for lighter loads.
- Gooseneck: Superior stability, better for heavy or long-haul applications, with GVWRs reaching into the mid‑20,000 lb range.
What brands are available?
Brands carried include Load Trail, Southland Trailers, Diamond T, Cross Trailers, Polar King, and other well-known manufacturers.
Where are your locations and what are your hours?
Main location: 5600 E. 72nd Ave, Commerce City, CO.
- Fort Lupton, CO location is coming soon.
- Hours: Monday-Friday: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM; Saturday: 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM; Sunday: closed.
Do you sell used trailers?
Yes. There is a used/pre-owned inventory available. These trailers are inspected.
What are the financing options?
Jayhawk Trailers works with lenders to offer financing plans with flexible terms. There are options that include zero-down when available.
Weight capacities by trailer type:
- Enclosed/Cargo: up to ~7,000 lb GVWR
- Deckover/Equipment: ~15,000–25,000 lb GVWR
- Dump: up to ~14,900 lb GVWR
- Tilt/Split‑Tilt: ~14,000–20,000 lb GVWR
- Utility: ~3,000–6,000 lb GVWR
- Car Hauler: ~9,000–10,000 lb GVWR
- Gooseneck: similar to equipment trailers
Enclosed Trailers — what should I know?
Enclosed trailers are offered in many sizes, with features like ramp doors, side doors, LED lighting, weather sealing, and various flooring types.
Dump & Equipment Trailers
Multiple sizes available. Heavy-duty dump trailers in the lineup (dual axles, etc.).
Refrigerated / Freezer Trailers
Polar King refrigerated (reefer/freezer) trailers are part of the offerings. These are specialty trailers.
Required maintenance
- Pre-use: Check tires, brakes, lights, hitch
- Monthly: Grease bearings; inspect bolts & tie-downs
- Annually: Full inspection of bearings, brakes, electrical systems, and structure
Storage tips
Store in a covered, elevated area, clean regularly, grease moving parts, and disconnect batteries to maintain longevity.
Used trailer inspection tips
Inspect for structural/frame integrity, axle wear, tire condition, electrical wiring issues, and brake system performance. Avoid units with corrosion or hidden damage.

What is Polar King and what does Jayhawk offer from them?
A: Polar King is a manufacturer of refrigerated/freezer trailers; Jayhawk sells these units.
What are the licensing and permit requirements?
Depends on your state’s DMV: trailer registration, weight limits, etc. Buyers should consult their local DMV for licensing, depending on trailer size, weight, and usage.
What are the insurance requirements?
Insurance typically depends on use (commercial vs personal), weight, where the trailer is registered, and contents.
What sort of hitch or towing setup do I need?
Perhaps you need to match hitch class to trailer gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR), correct ball size, braking system (electric or hydraulic), wiring for lights.
Cargo securement, safety, lights, brakes, etc.
Buyers should ensure tie-downs, DOT lights, safety chains, brakes all meet state and federal regulations.
Do you offer parts & service?
Yes — Jayhawk offers parts, service, and repair work. They also do truck bed sales and installations.
What maintenance is recommended?
Common recommendations include: regular lubrication of moving parts, checking and tightening bolts, checking brakes & lights, tire pressure and tread, checking for rust or corrosion, greasing bearings.
